Student assistant position CLIMPACT (m/f/d)

in the field of spatial data processing, climate and hydrological data analysis, starting as soon as possible.
The position is funded for up to 12 months. The remuneration is determined according to the guidelines of the TdL. The current hourly rate for a student assistant with a Bachelor’s degree is 14,59 € and without a Bachelor’s degree 13,98 €. This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of 10 hours per week.
Key responsibilities:
- Support ongoing research project by processing and analyzing spatial datasets.
- Developing and implementing data processing workflows to create high-quality visualizations and maps.
- Utilizing PIK’s high-performance computing cluster for spatial and temporal data analyses.
- Utilizing GIS tools to create map visualizations of the data across different spatial scales and temporal ranges.
You are a Bachelor or Master student, enrolled at a German university, and ideally meet the following requirements:
- strong background in geoinformatics, geography, environmental science, data science or related fields in natural science
- GIS software proficiency (QGIS or ArcGIS)
- programming proficency (Python or R, bash)
- experience with working over an HPC system
- not required, but beneficial: background on climate, hydrology or geography
