About Water For People
Water for People India initiated its operations in West Bengal in 1996 in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts. Consistent with the global vision and mission, we exist to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. Water for People India programs have been implemented in 26 districts in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Assam.
In all, nearly 1.2 million people have been reached through community drinking water and sanitation, WASH in public institutions and market led approaches to sanitation. By 2023, Water for People India programs aim to directly benefit 2.7 million people. We aim to build capacities at the district level which will contribute to organizational commitments, thereby indirectly benefiting 14.8 million people. Water for People India implements programs through locally registered non-government organizations.

Position Summary
The Agriculture Officer will support the implementation of natural resource management projects with a focus on sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. The role involves conducting field assessments, developing and implementing agriculture plans, and providing technical assistance in soil, water, and crop management. They will build local capacity, monitor progress, and ensure quality reporting and documentation. The position requires 70% fieldwork across Maharashtra. It involves coordination with stakeholders, compliance with organizational processes, and contribution to program strategy and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management and Implementation
- Work under the guidance of Program Coordinator in executing the technical aspects involved in agriculture.
- Conduct sustainable agriculture assessments to identify their current practices and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and implement sustainable/ climate resilient agriculture plans.
- Provide technical assistance and support on all aspects of sustainable agriculture, including soil management, water management, crop management, pest and disease management, and post-harvest management.
- Build the capacity of field staff, villagers and members of the village level institutions on sustainable agriculture practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of sustainable agriculture plans.
- Undertake monitoring and reviewing project implementation at regular intervals.
- Undertake procurement of material / services etc. as is required using the procurement process defined by the organisation.
- Submit monthly planners and reports to the Project Coordinator.
- Responsible for preparation of the physical and financial reports on the projects.
- Assist KM unit to collect the data for impact study, case study, photo documentation etc.
- Ensure adherence to WFP’s operating procedures/policies, grant agreement and statutory compliance in delivery of the program/ project.
- Assist Program Coordinator on program strategy and design, including work plans and budgets to maximize program impact and cost efficiencies.
- Ensure engagement and management of work plans, budgets and reports.
- Facilitate external and donor visits to the programs.
- Develop Relation with the community, Government officials, partner organization etc.
Reports and Documentation
- Prepare and ensure timely submission of high quality and accurate reports (programatic and financial), case studies, lessons learned, and proposals.
- Support KM Team in ensuring comprehensive process documentation (written, visual) pertaining to program implementation, technologies, and approaches.
Any Other
- Any other task assigned by line manager.
Prerequisites for the position
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, agronomy or related fields
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Holistic understanding of the Agriculture sector and inter-sectoral linkages
- Technical knowledge of sustainable farming systems, efficient water management, climate-resilient agriculture practices
- Analytical ability to analyze implementation strategies
- Excellent communication and networking skills
- Good negotiation/ advocacy/ influence skills
- Training and facilitation skills
- Ability to work with teams, external stakeholders and partner organizations to maximize their potential and drive performance
- Ability to meet deadlines and achieve results, while maintaining congeniality and professionalism
- High proficiency in MS Office. Should be able to write detailed project reports, prepare power point presentations etc.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in Marathi, Hindi & English
Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in similar organizational/ functional context
- Prior experience of managing a team is preferable.
- Experience of working with government, donors and CSOs
