The Opportunity
The Climate Resilience Branch of the Ministry of Environment is seeking a motivated and analytical individual for the position of Senior Research Officer. Reporting to the Manager of Modelling within the Adaptation and Resilience Analysis Unit, this position will provide in-depth research, modelling, and analysis to support development of innovative climate resilience opportunities in Saskatchewan that optimize sustainable growth and adaptation in the face of a changing climate.
Major responsibilities include:
- Emissions modelling within natural systems including hydrological, agricultural soils, or forestry systems.
- Researching emerging science, and high-level international, federal, and provincial trends and objectives associated with climate change science.
- Researching methodologies and sourcing and processing data for lifecycle emissions and carbon sequestration analyses.
- Translating technical results into compelling data visualizations, information summaries, and web-ready elements to succinctly explain and illustrate results of unit and Branch work.
- Preparing timely written and verbal interpretation and advice regarding resilience issues, opportunities, and analysis results.
- Providing secondary editorial review for accuracy and comprehensiveness of unit work (e.g., proofreading, formatting, plain language), as required.
- Supporting other technical analyses within the unit, as required.
- Serving as a subject matter representative as required on ministry, government, and national committees.
The successful candidate will have highly honed research and modelling skills and be adept at compiling, organizing, and synthesizing large volumes of complex information, literature, and data. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate exemplary spoken and written English language proficiency. The ability to provide timely, audience-appropriate communication of analyses and project results on complex issues is critical for success in this role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with assessing and adjusting work focus to complete tasks in a continuously changing environment with rapidly shifting priorities and objectives.
Knowledge of climate modelling and coding, scenario analysis, data management and analysis techniques including statistical analysis, and research and data visualization methods is central to this role.
Experience in climate resilience research and management in the Saskatchewan context, and experience working within multiple natural systems will be considered assets. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated skill preparing data visualizations and graphical summaries (e.g., infographics) that communicate technical details in plain language.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would be associated with someone who has an advanced graduate degree with multiple years of professional experience in emissions modelling, technical research, and quantitative analysis especially as it pertains to climate resilience.

This position is located in Regina. This position requires travel including staying overnight in locations away from home. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel, at times to remote locations, and be in possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
