Job Description and Duties
Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position and in accordance with the Executive Order (EO) 22-25.
Additional information:
The State Water Resources Control Board’s, Los Angeles Region, has an opening for a Scientific Aid in the Watershed Regulatory Section. The position location is 320 W. 4th Street, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90013.
Duties include:
The Scientific Aid assists National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit writers by reviewing technical reports, compiles, and analyzes data for development of permit effluent limitations. In addition, assist staff in responding to technical inquiries regarding NPDES files. Scientific Aid assists staff in coordinating file reviews requested by consultants, lawyers, and the public. The Scientific Aid pulls and reinstates files from file rooms after file reviews by the public. Scientific Aid assists staff in filing documents to appropriate files and maintains localized file database.
Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours per calendar year. The salary range for Scientific Aid is $17.73 – $21.04 per hour.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application and serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. It should be typed, no more than one (1) page in length, use Arial size 12 pt. font, and normal margins.
It must review
- your experience in the sciences and/or science policy; your organizational skills.
- customer service experience, and database management experience (including Excel spreadsheet databases).
- In addition, you may include experience in scientific writing for a technical or general audience.
