The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences, Foundation of Research and Technology – Hellas, (FORTH/ICE- HT) is seeking applicants for one PhD candidate position in the context of the research project “Strategies for health protection, pollution Control and Elimination of Next generAtion RefractIve Organic chemicals from the Soil, vadose zone and water, acronym “SCENARIOS”, “Grant Agreement number: 101037509 — SCENARIOS — H2020-LC-GD-2020 / H2020-LC-GD-20203”, which is implemented under the H2020 Research and Innovation Action.
Job Description
To conduct research as a PhD candidate in the framework of the aforementioned project SCENARIOS. The main objective of the specific part of SCENARIOS is to develop adsorbents for PFAs removal from water and the modification/regeneration of adsorbents surface through cold plasma. The job will also involve participation in the daily implementation of SCENARIOS project deliverables and preparation of reports to Project Coordinator and EC.
Location: FORTH/ICE-HT, Patras, Greece
Duration: up to 3 months, with the potential of renewal or extension according to the needs of the project
Fellowship: up to 840 € per month (graduate fellowship), depending on qualifications
Envisaged starting date: 01/8/2025
Requirements and Qualifications
The applicant should hold a BSc in Natural Sciences or a diploma in Engineering. The candidate should have been registered as a PhD candidate in Natural Sciences/Environmental Engineering. Experience with cold plasma technology is strongly favored. Candidates must have good knowledge of the Greek and English language (at least level C1). Participation in research projects would be favored.
The evaluation of the candidacies will be based on the following criteria and qualifications:

Experience with cold plasma modification/regeneration of materials – 20 – Number of relevant publications in Journals (5 point/publication, max 20 points)
MSc thesis relevant to adsorption processes – 20 – Relevance of the MSc thesis: strong relevance: 20 points, medium relevance: 15 points, weak relevance: 10 points
MSc degree grade – 20 – Grade X 2 points
Participation in research projects related to cold plasma technology – 20 – Duration of proven participation in relevant projects (5 points/year, max. 20 points)
Interview – 20 – (a) Background in the objective of the assignment (5 points). (b) Organizational and communication skills (5 points). (c) Team-spirit and self-motivation (5 points). (d) Commitment to achieving the goals (5 points)

Selection Procedure

In case of titles and qualifications awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions, the provisions of the Law 55/2023 (article 36) and 4957/2022 (article 304) are implemented.
