Williamson Water & Land Advisory (WWLA) was established in January 2015 and is a NZ based, employee-owned, consultancy firm, specialising in water resources and contaminated land, currently with twenty staff. We provide hydrological, hydrogeological, geophysical, contaminated land, RMA and strategic planning, and rural infrastructure advisory services. Our clients include some of New Zealand’s signature organisations in the following sectors: airports, energy, public (e.g., various government agencies, regional and district councils, etc), infrastructure, urban development, ,industrial, rural, mining and quarrying, and Iwi land trusts.
We pride ourselves on our client focus, extremely high standard of technical expertise and having an in-house software development capability that is heavily involved in assisting our modellers. Successful candidates may work principally from the company’s Kumeu (Auckland), Whangarei or Tauranga offices and be successful at working in a collaborative team environment.
About the role
Due to our recent growth and large forward workload, we are looking for a Groundwater Modeller to join the Water Resources Team.
You will be providing technical services in the following areas:
- Develop MODFLOW based groundwater flow models – including integrating surface water and groundwater models.
- Use numerical modelling to simulate hydrological systems ranging from farm to watershed scale and predict effects of natural or anthropogenic changes.
- Use analytical modelling methods for water balance type assessments using climatic and physical characteristics and simple calculations for groundwater modelling inputs and/or simple effects assessments.

Key Attributes for a successful candidate
- Bachelor or preferably a Masters of Science or Engineering, or equivalent relevant level tertiary education.
- 5+ years’ professional experience working in groundwater modelling research and/or related consulting roles.
- Advanced knowledge of hydrogeological and groundwater modelling concepts.
- Knowledge and experience in using PYTHON or other code to process data and optimise workflow.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and project and client management.
- Experience dealing with a range of clients and stakeholders, including local authorities, government bodies and commercial companies.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills would also be advantageous.
