Position Description
Valley City State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track or full-time, special appointment faculty position in Environmental Science.
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach a General Education Intro to Earth Science course and other courses as part of the Environmental Science program. Some of these courses will include students from Biology, Biology Education, and Fisheries & Wildlife Science programs. This person will also be the program lead of the Environmental Science program.
The special appointment option is a 9-month contracted position, which may be renewed annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching a General Education Intro to Earth Science course, a Soils course, an Environmental Earth Science course, and other classes depending on the interest of the candidate and needs of the department (see preferred qualifications).
- Staying current with course content, evaluating teaching methods and working to improve student learning and engagement.
- Advising Environmental Science students and recruiting students to the program.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or ABD in Geology/Environmental Science or related field
- Ability to teach Hydrology and Environmental Contaminants.
- Experience teaching in higher education in both face-to-face and online environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with the use of technology in the classroom
- Interest in creating undergraduate research program
- Strong desire to teach, knowledge of teaching methods, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to work with others in a collegial and collaborative manner
- Expressed interest in teaching at a small regional university with many first-generation students
Compensation
The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and typically ranges from $47,000 to $52,000 for an Assistant Professor rank. This position is a 9-month, full-time position. In some cases, summer duties may be arranged through an additional contract.
