“Urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation for Climate-resilient Development in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal” UN Habitat Nepal
Scope of Work: UN Habitat Nepal is looking to procure institutional engagement to support implementation of part of project “Urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation for Climate-resilient Development in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal” (Urban EbA) dedicated to mainstream EbA into planning frameworks, budgeting and implementation mechanisms of the KVDA and five target municipalities namely Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Madhyapur Thimi, Tokha Municipality, and Budhanilkantha Municipalities, as a demonstration to decrease the climate-induced impacts, particularly urban flood, pollution, drought, heat.
The main objective of this service is to:
1. Assess Climate Risks: Identify and analyse climate risks of urban areas and the broader project area of Kathmandu Valley.
2. Examine Urban Growth Dynamics: Analyse the patterns of urban growth and their relationship with environmental degradation and climate vulnerabilities and risks.
3. Assess Environmental Degradation: Investigate the main drivers and consequences of environmental degradation (e.g., flooding, landslides, droughts) and their role in increasing climate risks.
4. Identify Linkages: Establish the relationships among urban growth, environmental degradation, and climate change to identify key areas of vulnerability and resilience.
5. Develop Locally Appropriate EbA Interventions: Based on the findings, propose specific EbA strategies that address climate risks in the context of the region’s socio-economic and ecological realities and sustainable development.
6. Develop technical guidelines: Development of technical guideline based on the finding of CRVA – for the effective mainstreaming of appropriate EbA interventions through planning, budgeting, and provide training on the usage of the technical guideline to KVDA officials.
7. Facilitate training, sensitization, and orientation: Facilitate orientation, sensitization, and training session on usage of technical guidelines for urban EbA interventions to build the capacity of KVDA and municipal officials to internalize and implement the urban EbA project.
