Job SummaryThe Assistant Program Director will assist the Center Program Director in operating and managing the Water Engineering Research Center (WERC) and affiliated facilities at the University of Texas at Arlington. The role involves supporting multiple and varied research studies and overseeing the strategic planning and coordination of the Center’s operations. The Assistant Program Director is expected to secure direct and indirect support to sustain the operations of the Center and provide suggestions and input to the Center’s researchers and technical staff.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManagement and OperationsAssists the Program Director in managing the daily operations of the Water Engineering Research Center (WERC).Assists the Program Director with coordinating the research teams and research programs affiliated with the Center; includes cataloguing capabilities and areas of expertise of each researcher at the Center.Assists the Program Director with recruiting researchers to the Center to enhance future research capacities.Supports multiple research studies and projects within the Center as well as the strategic planning and coordination of the Center’s activities.Provides input and suggestions to researchers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.Coordinates the Center’s operations, events, and activities to meet defined objectives established by Center Director and Program Director.Pursuit of FundingIn coordination with WERC leadership formulate strategies to secure funding for the Center’s operations from agencies and private industry.Represents the Center to various agencies/organizations if the Program Director is unavailable. May include delivering presentations.A crucial part of the role is to secure direct and indirect support to sustain the operations of the Center, ensuring financial stability and growth.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.At least three (3) years of work experience at federal agencies.
Preferred QualificationsA professional engineer (PE) registered in Texas.Experience with management and operations and pursuit of funding, as described in the duties above.Supervisory and management experience at federal agencies related to water resources engineering and flood mitigation/management.Extensive experience in the areas of water availability and flood sciences for large watersheds in Texas and/or the nation.Extensive experience with the Interagency Flood Risk Management (InFRM) team and its affiliated government entities as well as the member institutions of InFRM’s Academic Council.Extensive experience with the North Texas Integrated Transportation and Stormwater Infrastructure (TSI) project and Base Level Engineering Program for Texas.Experience of managing projects (at least $25M)Experience of securing external funds (at least $5M)
