Manitoba Environment and Climate Change is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Watershed Planner within the Water Science and Watershed Management Branch. The successful candidate for this position’s work headquarters may be in Winnipeg, Brandon, or other rural locations may be considered. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba, including overnight stays as required

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Graduation from a post-secondary institution with specialization in environmental studies or science, natural resource management, land and water management or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in ecosystem function and landscape ecology.
  • Experience in applying an integrated, watershed-based approach to resource management and environmental planning.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with experienced in presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience writing technical reports and business correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple work files, establish priorities, and effectively manage time.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial governance, and administration.
  • Proficient in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and tools.
  • Knowledge of The Watershed Districts Act and The Water Protection Act, including their regulations, implementation, and impact on environmental governance.
  • Knowledge of the Manitoba Watershed Districts Program, including its policies, governance structure, and role in sustainable water management.
  • Experience collaborating with a board of directors to support governance, strategic decision-making, and organizational oversight.

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Watershed Planning and Programs, the incumbent provides resource planning, watershed management, and program-related assistance to watershed districts in Manitoba. The purpose of this position is to assist in the delivery of land and water conservation initiatives including the Watershed Districts Program, Growing Outcomes in Watersheds (GROW), and Integrated Watershed Management Planning in alignment with the Watershed Districts Act and the Water Protection Act.
