SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS  

Reporting to the Program Manager, Stormwater Science and Guidance, this position supports implementation of technical projects that further the Stormwater Science and Guidance Team objectives in the area of stormwater management, low impact development implementation, and watershed restoration. The successful candidate is flexible, innovative, and able to deliver on multiple initiatives in a fast and dynamic team environment.

Technical responsibilities include monitoring and inspection of innovative stormwater management facilities, operating specialized monitoring equipment and maintenance/inspection tools, data collection and review. This position interprets complex inspection, operation, maintenance and monitoring information to inform asset management plans and budgets. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

  • Completion of post-secondary education in water resources, environmental sciences, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the water resources field
  • Minimum 1 year experience supervising and coaching staff    
  • Experience in stormwater and groundwater quality and quantity monitoring and data analysis with minimum 3 years of in-field monitoring experience
  • Experience with project coordination and project data collection and leading staff on day-to-day project needs including technical, field and data tasks
  • Experience compiling, reviewing, and manipulating large water quality and quantity data sets 
  • Experience conducting detailed analysis on large data sets, producing graphs and critically interpreting data
  • Experience with different types of monitoring equipment (continuous flow and data loggers, autosamplers, water quality sondes)
  • Experience preparing high quality deliverables by summarizing findings, writing technical reports and summarizing results and information into presentations 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Solid background in water quality, hydrology, and water resources including stormwater management concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge of provincial and stormwater regulations and municipal asset management regulations
  • Experience in stormwater quality and quantity monitoring.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in written and oral communication to convey technical data in reports, summaries, and oral presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Other key abilities include: multi-tasking, organizational skills, and high attention to detail.
  • Team player with experience working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with WISKI databases, GIS, and/or modelling software an asset
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing 

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS 

  • Responsible for the collection, organization and analysis of water quality and quantity data.
  • Conduct water quantity and quality data and statistical analysis using spreadsheets and other specialized analysis software as needed, including quality control and assurance.
  • Conduct water resources field monitoring of innovative stormwater management facilities 
  • Conduct project coordination to guide staff in field data collection and data analysis tasks
  • Operate and maintain hydrologic and water quality monitoring equipment such as flow loggers, automated water samplers, water quality probes, temperature loggers, and meteorological equipment.
  • Interpret key findings from data collection and analysis and develop fact sheets, technical reports and presentations for technical audiences and the general public.
  • Conduct low impact development and green infrastructure inspections and data tracking for innovative stormwater facilities. 
  • Conduct supervisory tasks for permanent staff including performance management processes, administrative requirements, regular check in meetings, and provide direction and coaching
  • Required to work outside in the field including willingness and ability to work in adverse weather conditions and after hours as needed.
  •  Other duties as assigned
