About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Hydrographer in the Water Science and Monitoring Branch. The Hydrographer will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Surface Water monitoring stations across the State for both internal and external stakeholders. The role encompasses a wide range of functions such as the collection and processing of water data into information systems, surveying, installation of monitoring sites, boating, 4×4 remote travel and more. Your contribution will be critical in providing high quality and accurate data to the department’s surface water information systems. This data is integral to aiding the South Australian Government manage potential impacts on its water resources. You will be working with experienced Hydrographers and a team of support staff that will enhance your working experience. Contract: Temporary backfill contract for up to 26 May 2026
Essential Qualifications: An appropriate Technical Qualification relevant to the position (Natural Resources, Hydrography)
Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties.
- A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
- Ability to swim and to work from boats is essential.
- May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel and work outside of the normal hours of work.
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- The incumbent may be required to perform work of a similar nature appropriate to the classification.
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department requiring you to obtain an NPC.
Remuneration: TGO1 ($48,788 min – $70,032 max) p.a.
