Job Summary

The OPS Water Quality Coordinator will support the management and coordination of multiple statewide water quality initiatives. This role involves assisting with data quality assurance, document control, and preparing materials for presentations to diverse stakeholders. The position requires hands-on fieldwork including sample collection and equipment maintenance, alongside administrative support such as procurement, scheduling, and budget tracking. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, agency partners, and external stakeholders are essential in this dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manages coordination of multiple statewide water quality initiatives.
  • Support QA/QC data review, file organization, and document control.
  • Prepares materials for presentations to stakeholders and public audiences.
  • Conducts fieldwork, including sample collection, equipment maintenance, and data entry, as applicable.
  • Tracks administrative tasks such as procurement, scheduling, and budget reconciliation.
  • Supports team communications with internal staff, agency partners, and external stakeholders.

Other Duties:

  • Participates in the analysis of hydrological, chemical, or ecological datasets.
  • Compiles technical and financial data for inclusion in reports or scientific documentation.
  • Learn and apply specialized tools (e.g., GIS, environmental databases, Excel functions) to support project coordination and data interpretation.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Environmental Science, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience or coursework in environmental science or administrative project support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of hydrologic or environmental science principles, including surface water and groundwater systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring equipment and protocols.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate logistics and maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience with procurement, scheduling, or budget tracking.
  • Familiarity with data visualization or GIS platforms.

Position-Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental science principles, especially related to hydrology, surface water and groundwater systems, water quality monitoring, and data interpretation.
  • Familiarity with hydrological and ecological data types, such as flow rates, water levels, nutrient concentrations, and biological indicators.
  • Experience with operating, maintaining, and repairing scientific equipment and field infrastructure.
  • Understanding of project workflows in environmental science, including QA/QC procedures, reporting cycles, and stakeholder communication protocols.
  • Skill in logistics, including coordinating schedules, tracking procurements, and organizing both digital and physical project records.
  • Ability to compile, synthesize, and interpret technical data for use in reports, presentations, and scientific documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for data entry, communication, and basic analysis.
  • Capacity to learn and apply specialized tools such as GIS software, data visualization platforms, programming languages, and environmental databases.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to track progress and maintain attention to detail across multiple concurrent projects.
