About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop basin-scale decarbonisation strategies for water use in irrigated regions of the Murray-Darling basin. The successful candidate will work among a multidisciplinary team evaluating both in-setting and off-setting mechanisms for decarbonisation for both individual landholders and regional communities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop and implement research strategies for scaling on-farm practices to reduce water-related greenhouse emissions in irrigation regions
  • engage with stakeholders, collaborate with industry partners and deliver capacity-building programs to increase adoption of sustainable irrigation practices
  • perform data analysis, site-specific and regional-level modelling, on water-energy systems to support on-farm decarbonisation
  • present findings via peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations and produce technical reports to share research outcomes.

About you

  • a PHD in carbon accounting, economic modelling, and systems-scale decarbonisation of water resources
  • proficiency in macro-economic and environmental impact analysis relevant to basin-wide decarbonisation strategies
  • experience with spatial and temporal carbon emissions data collection and dashboard design for reporting
  • strong skills in socio-economic scenario modelling and the development of decarbonisation roadmaps at regional and basin scales
  • proficient in collaborating with government and financial institutions to assess market opportunities for decarbonisation.
