Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced WASH Consultant to support research, program development, and strategy in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene, particularly in underserved or marginalized communities. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in WASH programming and/or research in the development sector, along with a strong understanding of WASH systems, community behavior, and public health linkages.
Key Experiences Required:
- Proven experience in designing, managing, and evaluating WASH interventions, particularly in rural, tribal, or low-resource settings.
- Experience in conducting WASH-related research or assessments, including KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices) studies, baseline surveys, impact evaluations, or participatory appraisals.
- Field experience implementing community-based WASH programs, with a strong understanding of local governance, behavior change communication (BCC), and gender-sensitive approaches.
- Familiarity with national WASH policies, guidelines, and standards (e.g., Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission).
- Experience collaborating with government departments, NGOs, donors, and communities in WASH planning and execution.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze WASH systems, identify gaps, and provide evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience in preparing technical reports, donor briefs, and presentations based on research findings.
- Working knowledge of cross-cutting issues such as WASH in schools, health facilities, climate-resilient WASH, and menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
Educational & Technical Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Rural Management, Water Resources Management, Sanitation Engineering, or Social Sciences with a specialization in WASH.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in WASH-related roles in the development or humanitarian sector.
- Strong research and analytical skills; proficiency in using data collection and analysis tools (e.g., ODK, KoboToolbox, SPSS, Excel).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
- Familiarity with WASH sector monitoring frameworks, indicators (JMP, SDG 6), and evaluation methods.
Preferred Attributes:
- Previous consulting experience in WASH for INGOs, UN agencies, or government programs.
- Ability to synthesize complex technical information for non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in participatory, community-led approaches.
- Experience with WASH integration into health, education, and nutrition programs.
