Marys River Watershed Council (MRWC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring watershed health and engaging communities in environmental stewardship. MRWC seeks a VISTA member to expand environmental education programs, strengthen partnerships, and enhance organizational capacity through grant writing and fundraising. The VISTA will engage with students from grades 3-12, collaborating with school and summer programs, leading hands on activities in restoration and environmental education, and getting children excited about nature. This role also offers professional development opportunities through workshops, presentations, and networking opportunities. The VISTA will play a key role in fundraising and event planning, organizing events from concept to execution. They will take initiative in brainstorming fundraising events, engage local businesses and partners, and manage logistics to ensure success. Additionally, they will assist in coordinating monthly Tap Talks, an opportunity for the community to learn about relevant concerns in the Marys River Watershed. To support MRWC’s long-term sustainability, the VISTA member will develop resources for grant proposals that secure funding for educational programs and restoration initiatives. They may also develop outreach materials, attend community meetings, and attend public events to raise awareness about local environmental issues and encourage community involvement.
