Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary research team to develop data-driven frameworks that enhance the sustainability, precision, and efficiency of agricultural water use. Specific focus areas include applying AI/ML to analyze remote sensing and sensor data for predicting crop water requirements, advancing irrigation scheduling, and supporting real-time, site-specific irrigation decision-making under diverse cropping systems.
  • Contribute to the development of decision support tools that integrate environmental, climatic, and agronomic data to enhance water use efficiency at the field and regional scale.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, present results at national and international conferences, and participate in the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Engage with stakeholders through outreach and extension activities.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Education:

  • A Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering, Hydrology, Remote Sensing or related disciplines.

Required Abilities, Knowledge or Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Abilities, Knowledge or Skills:

  • Strong foundation in irrigation with an understanding of soil-water-plant-atmosphere dynamics.
  • Experience with AI/ML applications, particularly in conjunction with process-based models and remote sensing for agricultural systems.
  • A team-oriented individual who can collaborate effectively and contribute to the success of the group.
