I am actively seeking a highly motivated, fully funded PhD student (U.S. citizens only) at Texas State University, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This position focuses on the intersection of hydrology, climate, and water quality, with an expected start date in Fall 2025.
Research Motivation/objectives: Climate extremes significantly influence hydrological processes. These changes can affect the distribution of water contaminants in both natural and built environments, impacting human health and ecosystems. The research will utilize integrated hydrological and climate models—potentially combined with data-driven AI/ML approaches—to assess historical and future changes in contaminant behavior (e.g., PFAS) at regional or continental scales.
Position Details:
- Funding: Full tuition/fee coverage with competitive stipend (~ $36,000 annually), etc.
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to U.S. citizens.
- Start Date: Fall 2025 (or Spring 2026).
- Location: Texas State University, San Marcos, TX.
Qualifications:
- A strong academic background in civil & environmental engineering, geography, computer sciences, climate sciences, agricultural sciences, or related fields.
- A strong interest or experience with computational models and/or programming (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, etc.). *Experience with land surface models, vadose zone and groundwater modeling, regional climate models, etc., is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with GIS and geospatial data analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Eunsang Cho (eunsang.cho@txstate.edu) with the subject line: “DOE-PhD position”.
