About Water For People India Trust
Water For People India Trust was established as a non-profit entity in the year 2008 and is committed to undertake actions that enable and deliver universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation to populations in India. WFPIT design and implement programs/projects relating to improving the quality of life of those most in need by providing funding and training for water, sanitation and health and hygiene programmes. In addition, WFPIT works to strengthens the indigenous NGO sector of India by training, funding and building their capacity to perform good development work. Aligned to its ‘Everyone Forever’ approach, WFPIT aims to create and deliver sustainable solutions to WASH. Presently, WFPIT programs are being implemented in West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra and Assam.

Position Summary
The Project Officer – Kolkata and Project Officer- Assam will lead the implementation and monitoring of the “WASH in Public Institutions & Urban Community Sanitation Project” supported by ITC Limited. The role includes on-ground project execution, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting. The position reports to the Program Support Manager and will be based in Kolkata/ Assam with frequent travel to field sites.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Implementation & Monitoring
• Lead field execution aligned with project goals and timelines.
• Monitor program quality and progress, ensure timely data collection and reporting.
• Coordinate BCC (Behavior Change Communication) activities.
Technical & Administrative Support
• Provide inputs for program design and revisions of the log-frame matrix.
• Support quantitative and qualitative research to inform program scaling.
• Ensure documentation of lessons learned and case studies.
Capacity Building & Coordination
• Facilitate training and awareness programs in schools and communities.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including local governments and other partners.
• Assist in linking with government schemes and financial resources.
Reporting & Communication
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of narrative and financial reports.
• Maintain effective communication between Kolkata/ Assam field team and State Team.
• Contribute to donor and stakeholder presentations as needed.
Prerequisites for the position
Below are the key qualifications and standards that could be considered:
• Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Rural Development, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in community development/WASH/Education/Health sectors.
• Proven experience in field implementation, data analysis, and stakeholder coordination.
• Strong knowledge of water and sanitation-related government schemes.
• Experience working with tribal communities is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong communication skills in Bengali, English, and Hindi (oral and written) for Kolkata
• Assamese language required for Assam location
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office; data management and reporting.
• Leadership and facilitation capabilities with a collaborative approach.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to multitask.
• Culturally sensitive with the ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
Travel Requirement:
This position requires frequent field travel—up to 70% of the time—to project sites within Kolkata and surrounding areas.
