Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hydroinformatics Specialist to support data-driven water resources analysis, hydrological modelling, and decision-support system development. The job demands a strong background in hydrology, data science, and computing, and will apply modern informatics tools to solve complex water-related challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and calibrate hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g., SWAT, HEC-HMS, MIKE SHE, WEAP, MODFLOW).
- Analyse large datasets from various sources (e.g., sensor networks, satellite imagery, climate models, SCADA systems) to derive actionable insights.
- Design and manage databases and data pipelines for water resource management.
- Create web-based dashboards, visualization tools, and decision-support systems using GIS, Python, R, or similar platforms.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hydrologists, engineers, and software developers.
- Support clients and stakeholders in applying hydroinformatics tools for planning, policy, and operational purposes.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and scientific publications.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in AI/ML, Hydroinformatics, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) and experience with model integration and automation
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling tools
- Knowledge of GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data processing
- Familiarity with database management (SQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and data visualization tools
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
- Experience in machine learning applications in hydrology.
- Knowledge of water policies, climate adaptation, or water-energy-food nexus.
- Prior experience working with international development projects, government agencies, or NGOs.
