The incumbent will be appointed in accordance with the regulations of the new Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and will be required to complete a PhD.

The position comes with substantial support from the DHET. The appointment is also subject to the conditions as set by the DHET and must be read in conjunction with the nGAP requirements of the DHET (see www.dhet.gov.za/SSAUF).

Duties/Pligte

  • Teaching and curriculum development in Water Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Postgraduate supervision and research in Water and Wastewater Engineering.
  • Academic and departmental administration.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

Junior Lecturer:

  • An applicable BEng or BScEng degree in Civil Engineering, necessary to register with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional engineer.
  • A background in water engineering specialising in modelling and information systems, with a MEng or MScEng degree in water and/or wastewater engineering.
  • An excellent academic study record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and at least one other official South African language.
  • Must qualify to register for a PhD in Civil Engineering at the latest by February 2026 and graduate within five years.

Lecturer:

  • An applicable BEng or BScEng degree in Civil Engineering, necessary to register with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional engineer.
  • A background in water engineering specialising in modelling and information systems, with a doctorate in water and/or wastewater engineering, or a MEng or MScEng degree coupled with at

least three years’ relevant technical or research experience in this field.

  • An excellent academic study record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and at least one other official South African language.
  • Must already be registered for a PhD in Civil Engineering and expect to graduate within three years.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

Junior Lecturer:

  • Enrolled for a PhD.
  • The ability to work effectively in a multilingual environment.

 Junior Lecturer/ Lecturer:

  • A background in water and wastewater engineering, and a willingness to teach in these strategic subject fields.
  • Experience and in lecturing of technical material.
