WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Coordinator of the Resilient Watershed Conservation Strategy will collaborate closely with the Conservation Director of the Ecuador BU and other conservation programs to develop and implement strategies aligned with the objectives of the Resilient Watershed Conservation Program. The coordinator will also lead the technical and financial planning of the program, as well as the execution of specific projects. They will be responsible for strengthening and managing strategic partnerships with key actors from the public and private sectors, local communities, social organizations, and other strategic allies, ensuring the generation and sharing of technical and financial information, and facilitating necessary meetings and workshops for the implementation of the program.

Strategical and Technical Leadership
- Leads Integrated Conservation Strategies of the resilient Watershed Conservation Strategy.
- Planning the activities of the Conservation Strategies in Ecuador and participate in the planning of the Business Unit, helping to build projects and proposals that allow scaling the objectives of the strategy, aligned to regional strategies such as IPLC, Durable Freshwater Protection, Regenerative and Ranching Agriculture, etc.
- Coordinate the implementation and follow up on the processes and activities programmed within the framework of the conservation projects in priority areas: mainly located in the Oriental Andes and Pacific coast.
- Support the Conservation Director on the annual planning of the Conservation Strategies of the Resilient Watershed Conservation strategy and Project Management decisions.
- Work in close collaboration with other leaders, plans the resources (staff time, logistic) allocated to projects, activities and tasks of the conservation projects in priority areas. If needed, due to disagreement or prioritization review Cons. Director should be involved.
- Focal point to public and private institutions on Conservation projects with support and guideline from Policy Team.
- Focal point to TNC LAR and Global Strategies related to Amazon Iconic Place, delegated by the BU Directors
- Builds cooperation, alignment and provides technical support to other conservation areas/leaders and coordinate how their team provides supports to other teams in NASCA/LAR /Global
- Provide technical advice on the main topics/issues of strategy group to the Conservation Director, General Director and other BUs. It includes developing key technical products, donor reports and support the fundraising strategy.
- In Coordination with their team members maintain the TNC’s Shared Conservation Agenda HUB up to date.
- Build and maintain synergies and strategic relationships with decision makers in the areas and with the institutions with which they work within the framework of the Conservation Strategies.
- Support and advise the Director of Conservation of the BU Ecuador in the specific products that are indicated.
- Be the focal point of Ecuador for the LAR water strategy and consolidate the inputs from Ecuador requested by the LAR water strategy under the supervision of the Director of Conservation and Director of the BU.
Financial Sustainability
- Ensure the financial execution of the conservation projects in the Ecuadorian Andean, upper Amazon and coast Regions.
- Support the Development team and the Financial Sustainability coordination in the preparation of new proposals to ensure the financial sustainability of the Conservation Resilient watershed Strategy.
- Generate technical proposals to access new donations and financing funds for the projects of the Resilient Watershed Conservation Strategy.
- Prepare the reports that allow a wide dissemination of the results of the Conservation Strategy within priority areas.
- With the support of the Project Analyst and the team monitors costs and administering budgets of the Conservation Strategy for the Resilient Watershed Strategy projects/initiatives.
- Seek fundraising opportunities in the public and private sector in coordination with the Financial Director and Development team
- Develop in coordination with the Financial Director innovative designs for included conservation finance tools in their program.
Management
- Suggest to the Conservation Director the management, result and impact indicators for measuring compliance with their activities on the Conservation Program under their responsibility.
- Identify public and private local and regional actors, call and participate in meetings that allow the identification of issues of common interest and the generation of alliances for the fulfillment of the objectives of the Conservation Program.
- Structure with the BU Conservation team and with the LAR Iconic Places thematic conservation strategies, plans, programs, and projects; as well as the construction of management, result and impact indicators for monitoring the strategy.
- Build synergies and strategic relationships with local and regional stakeholders and decision makers linked the geographic areas where the Conservation Program projects are implemented in support of the NASCA management team
- Oversee and control the execution and develop of the work needed to implement in the Conservation Projects in the priority areas of the strategy, activities, and tasks according with deadlines, budget and agreements done.
- Give strategic guidance and coordinates work to staff working under their conservation area, either under their supervision or not.
- Establish coordination and monitoring mechanisms with the Finance and Operations Director of NASCA for the proper development and execution of their projects.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and context.
- Follow up contracts and agreements established within the framework of the projects of the Resilient Watershed Conservation Strategy and generate new agreements and contracts that allow continuity of the programmed processes and activities.
Talent Management
- Supervise multi-disciplinary technical staff.
- Communicates with other conservation program leaders and build alliances and joint efforts with them.
- Establish clear directions and set stretch objectives within their direct reports.
- Is an inspirational leader that guides people with example following TNC’s values and competencies.
- Recruit and hire staff following TNC procedures.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and supporting career development planning and opportunities.
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among the team allowing for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together.
- Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings and appropriate email, IM (Instant Messaging), and regular interpersonal communication.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- B.Sc in a branch of Environmental Sciences: biology, ecology, environmental management, or similar fields.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in similar positions or equivalent combination of education and experience (project coordination or project component coordination).
- Experience negotiating complex agreements.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives, and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, engagement with key stakeholders (communities, local governments, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, universities).
- Proficiency in Spanish and English.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Skills and experience in project preparation and management, schedule development and tracking, report and presentation preparation.
- Ability to engage with local and institutional stakeholders.
- Experience working with local communities for the conservation of high Andean ecosystems.
- Knowledge of water security and experience/familiarity with the Water Funds mechanism.
- Ability to draft outreach texts for various formats (web pages, magazines).
- Multilingual skills and multicultural or intercultural experience are valued.
- Knowledge of land management conservation practices and conservation science.
- Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.
- Ability to complete tasks independently while respecting deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills in written, spoken, and graphic forms in English and other relevant languages.
