Posting Context Statement | The Department of Plant Sciences seeks candidates for a Research Associate I. The primary responsibility is to oversee and manage research activities in the field, laboratory, on-farm, and greenhouse for the Forage Agronomy and Irrigation Management Programs. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day research activities, planning and conducting experiments, data collection and analysis, and providing summaries of the research. The position will be supported by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. |
Position Overview | Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.Duties may include:Provide technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applicationsPlan and conduct research and analysis of scientific dataInterpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limitsIdentify and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testingDevelop recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problemsPlan, design, develop, monitor and/or evaluate portions of a scientific project, study, or applicationProvide scientific evaluations/assessmentsResearch, implement, standardize, and evaluate new proceduresMaintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agenciesOther duties as assigned |

Position Qualifications
Required Experience | Two years of post-bachelor’s research experience related to the domain of this position |

Required Education | Bachelor’s Degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, agriculture, agricultural engineering, water resources, agricultural technology or related disciplines |
Required Other | Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles |
Additional Preferred | Master’s Degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, agriculture, agricultural engineering, water resources, agricultural technology or related disciplinesExperience working on forage quality analysis using NIRS or wet chemistry methodsExperience of using soil and water sensors and handling big dataExperience with field research, experimental design, data collection and analysisProficiency in using statistical analytical software (e.g., R, SAS)Experience with technical writing and presentation and other professional contributions |
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions | May be required to work in adverse environmental conditions (dusty, hot or cold conditions outdoors)Must be able to lift, carry and/or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 pounds |
