The Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) within the Durban University of Technology (DUT) “Open Call for Postdoctoral Research Fellows (2025)” seeks postdoctoral fellows in the following research focus areas:
FOCUS AREA 1: WATER QUALITY
Preferred: A strong background in water quality assessment/ Wastewater treatment
Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Chemistry/Environmental or Civil Engineering with a strong knowledge of the treatment process.
FOCUS AREA 2: ONE HEALTH APPROACH
Preferred: A strong background in wastewater-based epidemiology and/or pollutant removal in water and wastewater
Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. in Biotechnology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ø Applicants should have a PhD obtained within the last five years.
Ø Evidence of Publishing at least 2 to 3 articles (and/or creative outputs) as part of their Doctorate.
Ø Provide proof of a well-defined Research Focus Area and Plan that they will implement over a 3-year period (Annual renewals will be performance-based).
Ø Proven ability to write and publish papers in accredited peer-reviewed journals.
Ø Commit to 3 years at DUT when appointed into a position. Should the candidate terminate the contract before then, they will be liable for a payback of benefits awarded to them as determined by the university.
