As an Operations Engineer you will be reporting to Team Lead of Operations Engineering, Wastewater Collection. You will support the effective management of the wastewater collection network, ensuring its reliability, compliance, and optimal performance. Working closely with Water Services Operational staff, you will continuously monitor and assess the performance of the collection network, identifying maintenance needs and implementing operational improvements.

Primary duties include:
• Collaborate with union and management exempt operational staff to achieve divisional goals, maintain physical and psychological safety, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide project and/or construction management for various rehabilitation and continuous improvement projects for wastewater and stormwater pump/lift stations. Projects may result from operational trouble shooting, process upsets, infrastructure assessment, safety concerns, and/or lifecycle requirements. Scope of design elements may include process piping and valves, forcemains, chemical injection systems, flow meters, HVAC equipment, utility buildings, and roofing & building envelopes and should adhere to the requirements outlined in the Lift Station Design Guideline. Integration with electrical and instrumentation systems will require collaboration with various utility partners.
• Develop internal and reviewing external by-pass pumping submissions for compliance with the By-Pass Pumping Guideline and permit issuance under the Wastewater Bylaw. Provide comments and suggestions for risk-based plans taking into account seasonality, site-specific configurations, flow requirements, safety, redundancy, cost/benefit, etc.
• Support the Senior engineer with internal and external project circulation reviews, research and pilot new and innovative technologies, business case development, funding requests, sourcing, procurement, and forecasting.
Qualifications
• A degree in Engineering with preference given to mechanical, chemical, and energy disciplines.
• You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
• A working knowledge of chemical and mechanical engineering principles as applied to process plants is required.
• Previous experience with safety management systems including elements such as joint workplace health and safety committees, site hazard assessments, standard operating procedures, confined space requirements, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) knowledge of hazardous gasses and materials and incident reporting.
• Ability to adapt to competing and changing priorities and deadlines.
