The job
As part of a third-party funded project, financed by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV), the following position is available in the Department of Lake Research.
Your tasks
- Collection of water quality data from selected study sites as a basis for the validation of remote sensing products
- Retrospective and ongoing processing of satellite data on the water quality of the selected study sites: Comparison and optimization of methods, evaluation and assessment of methodology and usability
- Development of recommendations for action on the methodology of the processing used
- Support with project coordination and reporting
- Presentation/publication of the results

Your profile
- University degree (Master’s/university diploma – preferably with a doctorate) in a natural science or engineering discipline, such as geoinformatics/remote sensing, geosciences, geography, biology, physics/geophysics, hydrology or related disciplines
- Very good knowledge of satellite remote sensing of surface waters as well as good knowledge of limnology, aquatic ecology or water quality management
- Very good knowledge of programming / automation of routines, preferably with MATLAB, Python or R
- Good knowledge of statistics, e.g. multivariate methods, linear and non-linear models, spatial statistics, time series analysis
- Good knowledge of data management and the processing of vector and raster data as well as experience in working with geoinformation systems
- Experience in the governmental sector is an advantage
- High level of communication skills, written and spoken German and English, ability to work in a team and willingness to perform
