Position HighlightsThe Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona (UA) is seeking a postdoctoral scholar in hydrology and hydroclimatology. As part of the effort, the successful candidate will work with a team of investigators from UA and Arizona State University (ASU) to investigate innovative ways to strengthen water resilience and secure future water supply under climate change. To achieve the goals, the post-doc will conduct water budget analysis and project future water supply under various climate change and land use scenarios and provide guidance for designing an observational network in Arizona. Duties & ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyzing various data products of precipitation, evapotranspiration (ET), runoff and streamflow, groundwater recharge, snowpack, soil moisture, and terrestrial water storage change over Arizona under historical periods and future climates.
Developing new ET products over Arizona with innovative algorithms and remote-sensing data to estimate ET water loss, while analyzing various other existing ET products.
Advancing hydrological models (e.g., the National Water Model, land surface models) with machine learning techniques to improve streamflow, snow, and ET predictions.
Publish high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles and present the results at conferences.
Team working and reporting regularly to the project team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong skills in hydrological modeling and machine learning,
Proficient in computer programing (e.g., Python, Fortran, C, Matlab, and/or R),
Skills in handling large datasets and high-performance computing (Unix and Linux systems),
Strong record of publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Knowledge of machine learning techniques
Minimum QualificationsPh.D. in hydrology, hydrometeorology, atmospheric sciences, or related fields completed by date of hire.
