Job description
Coastal wetlands and lagoons in southern China serve as critical archives of environmental change, preserving high-resolution records of ecosystem responses to climate variability, sea-level fluctuations, and intensifying anthropogenic pressures. This project aims to understand better how coastal ecosystem response to environmental pressures such as typhoon events, sea level rise and recent anthropogenic disturbance. We will use physicalchemical and biological approches (diatoms, foraminifera, ostracod etc) to:
- Identify key pressures on coastal wetlands and lagoons in southern China through a water-sediment-ecological perspective;
- Reconstruct centennial-scale relative sea-level changes using transfer function models calibrated with modern bio-indicator datasets;
- Quantify the ecological impacts of typhoon activity and sea-level rise on coastal wetland in the past centuries or since the Holocene.
