The Norwegian Red Cross (NoRC) is part of the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, the world’s largest humanitarian network with millions of volunteers operating in 190 countries. The RCRC Movement’s mission is to alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity especially during armed conflicts and other emergencies.
The advertisement concerns application for training leading to potential admission to our Emergency Response (ER) roster. It is not for a specific or permanent position within the Norwegian Red Cross.
The Norwegian Red Cross maintains a roster of trained specialists (delegates) ready to be deployed with standardized equipment on a short notice in response to international emergencies such as natural disasters, conflicts, heath emergencies or climate-related emergencies. Delegates work closely with the local Red Cross-National Society to provide specific services where local infrastructure is damaged, temporarily out of service, out of reach or insufficient to cope with the needs.
Most of the delegates have a full-time job with permission from their employer to take leave of absence without pay if it is requested by NoRC to go on mission. The expected length of availability for a mission is minimum 6 weeks and the delegate are on contract with Norwegian Red Cross and receives salary while on mission, in addition to the other compensations, if applicable.
Water Supply Rehabilitation (WSR) Emergency Response Unit(ERU)
NoRC has specialized in WSR ERUs to support host National Societies to assess and deliver water supply to populations affected by disasters/crisis through rehabilitation and, if necessary, establishment of new water supply infrastructure. The Water Supply Rehabilitation (WSR) ERU consists of a small team of specialized delegates with limited equipment, able to support a host National Society to rapidly assess the state of the existing water system and improve the system.
The Logistician Delegate will be responsble for:
Ensuring and maintaining Logistics systems to support the efficient day-to-day operation of the ERU. This includes airport and port operations, stock management, procurement, transportation and fleet management, asset management, communication equipment (IT/Telecom), logistic staff management, logistic reporting and documentation, security, coordination and logistics support for the team.Â
Support and coordinate ERU local staff to undertake professional/technical activities under the scope of logistics activities. This could include supervision, mentoring and training.
Multi-skilled delegates are essential in supporting roles in an emergency health operation.  Â

We consider it an advantage if you also have:
Minimum three years of work experience relevant to your profession
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Other languages are an asset (for ex. Spanish, Arabic and French)
Driving license (class B – manual gearbox)
Other skills:
English work proficiency is required, while knowledge of other languages like French, Spanish, or Arabic is an advantage.
Working Conditions 
Difficult and demanding working conditions, due to the nature of an emergency and proximity to disaster and conflict areas. The following conditions are to be expected in the field:
Very basic living conditions, likely in tents during the entire mission
Long hours of work in a demanding context with limited resources
Movement restrictions due to security situation
Stressful and rapidly changing environment with limited information to make decisions.
Other Important Information:
A. To be accepted onto NoRC’s ERU roster, you must complete our recruitment process (application, interview, reference checks), complete 24 hours of online training and attend the following trainings:
IMPACT (International Mobilization and Preparation for ACTion): The course lasts one week and aims to prepare delegates for international field work with the Red Cross through theory and practical activities.
Hospital Training: The training simulates an emergency response operation with deployments of an Emergency Hospital providing services in accordance with WHO EMT type 2 and public heath teams working together with other sectors such as WASH in a scenario-based training. The training lasts for a week. This is a pass/non-pass training, and delegates will be evaluated by experienced aid workers.
Profile Specific trainings:For some delegate profiles, there are additional or other profile specific trainings.
Once you have completed the necessary training and courses, you will be included in the ER roster and may be contacted by NoRC when there is a deployment request. Please note that participation in these trainings will not be compensated.
B. Kindly note that all prospective delegates must be available for at least one deployment per year. Therefore, it is essential to plan and assess work commitments in advance, including obtaining any necessary approvals from current employers before applying.
