Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
  • Must be able travel to work sites within the province by ground and/or air transportation, which may require overnight stays
  • Physically capable of performing the duties and functions of the job including working at outdoor work sites, in confined spaces and extreme heights, and carrying out physical activities such as standing, sitting, walking, climbing, twisting, slip-trip-fall, lifting and carrying (0-22 lbs)
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer months

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Bachelor-level degree in Civil Engineering or equivalency recognized by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Experience in water resource engineering with a thorough working relationship with other engineering disciplines (i.e. geotechnical, structural), as required, in the delivery of water infrastructure projects
  • Experience with preliminary and detailed design for the rehabilitation and repair of watercourse systems, crossing structures, erosion control and flood control structures
  • Experience in project management of water related infrastructure design projects for water control structures and waterways
  • Supervisory experience with ability to coach and mentor staff
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to build and foster working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
  • Effective written communication skills including the ability to prepare information for others
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills

Duties:
The Senior Waterway Design Engineer provides specialized hydraulic engineering services encompassing hydrologic and hydraulic investigations, analysis and design of provincial drains and crossings within the Provincial drain network. The Senior Waterway Design Engineer also manages engineering services providers to undertake hydrologic, hydraulic, environmental and related engineering studies; analyses and designs for the Provincial drainage network, water / flood control structures and associated works.
