One Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is open within the scope of the project entitled RESURGENCEIndustrial Water Circularity: Reuse, Resource Recovery and Energy Efficiency for Greener Digitised Eu Processes, (Reference: 101138097) funded by the European Commission (European Horizon), under the following conditions:

1. Scientific field: Microbiology.

2. Admission requirements: Candidate must hold a PhD Degree in the field of Microbiology, Molecular Biology or similar, completed in less than three years.

Other requirements: Proven laboratorial experience in the field of in antimicrobial activity tests.

Other preferential requirements: Motivation for research, good workability, good command of written and spoken English, availability to start work in the beginning of May 2025.

For academic degrees conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to present the registration of the recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12 October), or alternatively, obtaining equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 283/83, of 21 June).

3. Work plan: The aim of the project is to analyze the microbial population of biofilms that form on the surface of nanofiltration membranes used to process water in the paper industry.

4. Applicable law and regulation: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18 August, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August (Statute of Scientific Research Fellows) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October, by Law No. 12/2013 of 29 January, by Decree -Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Fellowships and grants regulations in force since June 7th, 2021, and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://dre.pt/application/conteudo/127238533).

5. Workplace: The work will be carried out under the framework of the research activities of the Associate Laboratory for Green Chemistry – REQUIMTE, at the NOVA School of Science and Technology, under the scientific guidance of Professor João Crespo. When required, the work will be also performed at iBET (Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica) at Oeiras, under the supervision of Dr. Teresa Crespo.

6. Fellowship duration: The fellowship lasts for 3 months, starting in May 2025. The fellowship contract will eventually be renewed during the entire duration of the project.

7. Monthly maintenance allowance: The net monthly allowance is 1 851,00 €, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (Annex I of the New Regulation). Payment will be made monthly by bank transfer. If the fellowship holder wishes to apply to voluntary social security, the contributions will be covered by the project.

8. Selection Methods: The selection process may take place in two phases, considering only candidates who meet the admission requirements. The first phase will be document analysis and the parameters to be used will be the following: curricular assessment of the required laboratory experience (50%); suitability of the candidate’s profile for the position in question (50%). After the document analysis, if considered necessary by the jury, there will be an interview only with candidates who obtain the classification equal to or greater than 75% in the first phase, and the final grade will be obtain through the weighted classification of the two phases (50% for the first phase and 50% for the interview). All these criteria will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20 points.

10. Form of publicity/notification of results: The list of admitted and excluded candidates and the final list of classification will be sent by electronic mail with receipt of delivery to all candidates, within a maximum period of 90 working days after the deadline for the submission of applications. Candidates who want to apply for effective review, must do it within 10 working days, under the terms of the Administrative Procedure Code in force in Portugal. At the end of the period set for the effective review and in the absence of any response, the rank list will become definitive. Candidates who want to file a complaint, must do it within 15 working days (to the email address used for notification), or appeal to the School Board, within 30 working days (to the email address mf.antunes@fct.unl.pt).

11. Application deadline and the procedure for submission of application: This call is open from March 28th to April 10th, 2025.

Applications must be formalized, by sending an e-mail to Professor João Crespo (E-mail: jgc@fct.unl.pt), mentioning the reference of the fellowship “RESURGENCE1_2025” in the subject and title of the email. The application must consist of a single PDF file including:

i) Detailed curriculum vitae (including telephone contact),

ii) Documents proving the PhD degree or a declaration on honor stating that the degree will be obtained up to the application deadline.
