Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Willing and able to work outdoors in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures
- Willing and able to lift and carry (0-22 lbs) less than 20%
- While at work sites, exposure to roadway traffic, slip-trip-fall, carrying/twisting, insects, and vegetation & sharp objects
- Willing and able to work near or in water; May involve continuous standing and continuous walking
- Registered or eligible for registration as Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (M.Sc preferred).
- Experience in undertaking watershed scale hydraulic studies
- Experience in preliminary hydraulic design of hydraulic structures, and crossing structures
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite products and GIS software for water resources projects
- Effective written communication skills, including ability to prepare technical and non-technical correspondence and reports
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts
Desired:
- Experience in hydrologic modeling, statistical analysis and reservoir routing
Duties:
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s mission is to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure and services for Manitoba and its communities. The Waterway Planning Engineer provides technical support for the hydraulic, structural, and geotechnical investigation, evaluation, planning, development and conceptual design of water control works such as water retention facilities, erosion control structures, riverbank and lake shoreline stabilization works, and various hydraulic structures. The Engineer undertakes water management investigations, evaluations, and planning exercises. The Engineer will also assist in preparing correspondence, planning and program-related documents for the supervisor.
