Job Description:

Compensation Rate: $23.36- 29.23 per hour; DOE

This is a remote position supporting the work across Northern Arizona as part of the Arizona Water for All Network (AW4A), led by a partnership between Arizona State University (ASU), Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the University of Arizona (UofA). The position will be working with the Water, Society, and Policy Lab at NAU. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-institutional team working to successfully increase participation and empowerment in water-insecure communities across Arizona.

The ideal candidate has experience in the design and implementation of social science research as well as a good understanding of water issues across Arizona. The ideal candidate is a strong individual contributor and an effective team player who is organized and capable of meeting priority deadlines across several related projects. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, work well in a flexible environment, and show initiative and creativity in the different stages of research design and implementation.

Dates: 12-month position, with possible extension. This position is part-time (0.50 FTE), benefits eligible.

Essential Duties:

  • Supporting the team in developing data collection protocols in collaboration with research partners and collaborators.
  • Supporting the team in developing multi-methods tools, collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data.
  • Representing AW4A during on-site visits while performing data collection activities; may serve as the direct contact with participating agencies/organizations with whom data collection efforts would require assistance.
  • Assisting the team in research activities to identify existing related efforts and current water priorities across urban, rural, and Indigenous communities in Northern Arizona.
  • Performing independent studies, internet, and library searches on water policy issues.
  • Assisting with literature reviews, and identifying relevant prior research, instruments, or data sources as required for projects or activities.
  • Preparing, producing, and presenting written reports that may include: the progress of the study, data summaries, documented findings, literature reviews, bibliographies, or other study-related updates and/or evaluations.
  • Preparing tables and graphs for use in technical reports, academic journal articles, or public presentations to diverse audiences.
  • May perform or assist in delivering presentations and writing articles and reports.
  • Provide assistance and information to faculty, staff, and outside organizations regarding function/program

Desired Qualifications:

  • Must be located within 50 miles of Flagstaff, Arizona, and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of academic research environment and principles, practices and techniques of research design, methodologies, and statistics.
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of internet-based research.
  • Experience conducting social science research, specifically designing research protocols for data collection, recruiting research participants, and collecting and analyzing data using qualitative and/or mix-methods methods.
  • Skill in facilitating research partnerships and experience working with research partners and collaborators to inform research design and deliverables.
  • Experience working with water-insecure households and/or communities
  • Experience in Arizona, tribal, and western water policy issues.
  • Skill in effective communication, both written and verbal and evidence of effective presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Experience working effectively and respectfully in a team environment with demonstrated ability to create and sustain positive working relationships internal and external to the organization.
  • Familiarity with project management and task-tracking tools.
  • Skill in preparing and summarizing data for management reports and policy decisions.

Working Environment:

  • Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.  
  • Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.   
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.  Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.

Flexible work options

Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Driving Requirement: This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
