Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hiring a Regional Nonpoint Source Coordinator in the Division of External Services.

This position will be headquartered in our office in Wausau or Wisconsin Rapids, WI depending on space availability and location of selected candidate.

Remote work may be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating, managing, and implementing all Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution abatement regulations and grant activities in North Central Wisconsin including implementation of NR 151 performance standards/prohibitions and coordination of financial grant activities pertaining to nonpoint source management (e.g., Targeted Runoff Management, Urban Nonpoint Source, and Notice of Discharge grants). This position will play a vital role in ensuring water quality projects are implemented in areas with an approved watershed improvement plan that meet the required Nine Key Elements. This position will also support the administration and facilitation of Adaptive Management and Pollutant Trading arrangements/program implemented in the assigned geographical area.

Salary Information

Starting pay for this position is between $33.00 to $37.00 per hour (or $68,640 to $76,960 annually), in addition to excellent benefits.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is included in the classification Water Resources Management Specialist – Senior within pay schedule/range 15-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Remote Work: Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for remote work. Travel: This position will require travel throughout the assigned geographic area for field inspections, some statewide travel and overnights stays and may require minimal out-of-state travel.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include the following:

  • Professional experience related to natural resources management, water management, soil science or agriculture
  • Experience interpreting and applying regulatory policies, standards or guidelines
  • Experience addressing controversial subjects or resolving conflict with external parties/customers

Preferred qualifications include experience with any of the following criteria:

  • Interpreting and enforcing natural resources environmental compliance principles, procedures, and administrative code
  • Preparing or reviewing environmental grant applications
  • Investigating environmental complaints related to discharge of pollutants, such as a manure spill
  • Multidisciplinary project work (e.g., reviewing plans, preparing plans, project management with federal, state, county and/or local partners to accomplish water quality goals, etc.)
