The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (the Conservation Authority), an internationally recognized leader in watershed management, is seeking to fill two (2) positions for:

Integrated Watershed Management Assistant

Bradford, Ontario

8-month Contract

Hourly Wage Range: $19.70 – $24.63

Reporting to the Acting IWM Implementation Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting on a wide variety of projects related to climate change and watershed management.

What you offer

· Successful completion or enrollment in a post-secondary program related to environmental science, forestry, geography, biology, or other related disciplines.

· Experience with biological data collection.

· Ability to identify tree and shrub species found in the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario.

· Ability to publicly represent LSRCA and our partners in a professional manner.

· Excellent time management and organizational skills.

· Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

· An interest in climate change resilience and watershed ecology and management.

· Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite products.

· Valid G class driver’s license in good standing.

· Experience using data collection and mapping software (e.g. ArcMap, Collector, GPS) would be considered an asset.

· First Aid certification would be considered an asset.

What you will do

· Assist in field research assessing carbon sequestration rates in habitat restoration projects in the Lake Simcoe watershed.

· Carry out data collection on trees and understory vegetation at forest sites including tree species identification and measurement of tree diameter at breast height and height.

· Carry out data collection on non-woody species at grassland and marsh sites, including plant identification and harvesting.

· Ensure that data collection is carried out efficiently and according to protocol.

· Complete lab work to prepare and process plant and soil samples.

· Complete data management, quality assurance and control, and report writing.
