Your responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for a period of 36 months. We aim to understand the colonization dynamics of benthic foraminifera at terrestrial saline locations in central and northern Germany. The following questions are addressed: 1) When and how did marine organisms colonize salt ponds, saline springs and surrounding environments? 2) What is the species inventory, do endemic benthic foraminiferal faunas prevail at these locations? 3) How does human-induced climate change affect the population dynamics of foraminifera in terrestrial salt ponds? These questions will be answered by long-term monitoring of foraminiferal populations and pore water chemistry at key locations in Germany, and by an investigation of saline areas that were related to potash salt production where the start of mining is known. We are looking for an experienced candidate who is interested in this topic. The successful candidate will team with our research group, will participate in fieldwork sampling campaigns, and will be responsible for the analyses of benthic foraminiferal faunas and data integration.
