Description
Position Purpose & Responsibilities: Elevate the voice of the waterpower industry to organizations, policy makers, and stakeholders beyond the traditional hydropower industry. The successful candidate in this role will also support NHA’s policy advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Raise awareness of the benefits of water power (hydropower, pumped storage, and marine energy) to organizations, policy makers, and stakeholders that NHA has not traditionally reached; foster partnerships to enhance the industry’s prominence among key audiences and potential allies; and attract new stakeholders and organizations to attend NHA events.
- Support NHA’s policy advocacy efforts as part of our policy team.
- Coordinate with NHA staff and external consultants, and other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of five years of experience working on public policy issues on Capitol Hill, public affairs firm, trade association, or a federal agency required.
- Experience working in a membership organization preferred; energy experience desired.
- Outgoing, gregarious person who enjoys meeting new people and cultivating new relationships.
- Comfort with significant public speaking, and the ability to “think on one’s feet” to inject water power into conversations while on the “energy policy circuit”
- Washington, DC based required.
- Ability to travel, as well as participate in occasional evening receptions and/or weekend events.
- Dynamic communication skills with speaking experience, political advocacy and analytical skills, and a healthy sense of humor required.
- Able to travel (10-15% of your time)
