The Zarqa River Basin is central to Jordan’s economy and home to more than 50% of Jordan’s population. The basin faces significant environmental challenges; including water scarcity; pollution; and degradation of natural resources. The World Bank is supporting the Government of Jordan to develop a rehabilitation plan to improve environmental quality and promote green economic growth in the basin through the Zarqa River Basin Environmental Rehabilitation and Development Initiative. Under this project; a firm is sought to support the identification of water pollution sources; scoping of high-priority industrial depollution and water resource management; and development of an environmental restoration and redevelopment action plan.The main objective of this contract is to support the development of a comprehensive action plan for the environmental restoration and development of the Zarqa River Basin. The consulting firm will focus on identifying pollution sources and contamination hotspots along the Zarqa River between Amman and the King Talal Dam; scoping potential for improved environmental resource management; and providing inputs for an action plan for long-term restoration and redevelopment.
