Driving Requirement:
  • This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Secondary Employment:
  • All Austin Water employees are prohibited from accepting or engaging in any secondary employment that might conflict or interfere with an employee’s duty and responsibility to the Department.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Effective October 1, 2014, all Austin Water worksite locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any AW worksite – including construction sites, parking lot, garage or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    1. Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of the department’s license certification training, operational employee onboarding program, safety training, technical training, and related programs ensuring compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations and industry specific regulations and requirements.
    2. Leads, implements, and facilitates utility training programs and partners with executive leadership to provide direction to achieve planned objectives.
    3. Oversees and coordinates departmental and contracted training programs in various formats. Oversees and coordinates the use of the Govalle Occupational Development Support Center.
    4. Assesses the effectiveness of organizational operational training and drives the development of strategic systems, processes, tools, and plans. Develops intervention strategies to improve operational training performance.
    5. Identifies immediate and future learning and development opportunities by collaborating with leaders; researching emerging trends, new technologies, concepts, and techniques; and collecting data from surveys, audits, and other assessment tools. Determines any performance gaps and potential solutions. Develops short- and long-range strategies, goals, and action plans to meet those needs.
    6. Facilitates organizational change management to support department’s core values and strategic directives.
    7. Provides data and reports to address organizational and business issues, strategies, and practices.
    8. Develops key metrics to measure effectiveness of enterprise-wide initiatives and programs.
    9. Prepares, presents, and monitors the division budget; ensures division operates within appropriate budget; and manages and oversees contracts through performance monitoring, preparing scope of work and specifications, and resolving issues with vendors.
