JOB SUMMARY
The Watershed Recovery Coordinator will be responsible for leading and coordinating the implementation of watershed recovery initiatives in alignment with the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) Watershed Recovery Plan.  
 
The role involves extensive engagement with internal and external stakeholders, securing and managing funding, coordinating project execution, and ensuring the fulfillment of all project-related requirements. This position reports to the Director Territorial Stewardship
 
SUPPORTS NEEDED
Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Coordinate and lead engagement efforts within and outside of OKIB to foster collaboration and ensure community and stakeholder buy-in for watershed recovery initiatives.
  • Maintain open communication channels with all relevant parties, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community members.


Funding and Budget Management:

  • Initiate and oversee the acquisition of funding, including the development and submission of funding proposals.
  • Manage budgets and ensure the efficient allocation of resources to meet the priorities outlined in the Watershed Recovery Plan.


Project Coordination:

  • Lead and coordinate the execution of projects as outlined in the Watershed Recovery Plan.
  • Identify implementation priorities and timelines in collaboration with OKIB, ensuring that projects are initiated and delivered on schedule.
  • Develop contracts and agreements as necessary to support the implementation of the plan and to build organizational capacity.


Plan Implementation:

  • Work within the established support network to implement the Watershed Recovery Plan effectively.
  • Monitor progress, address challenges, and make adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.


Supervision:

  • Supervise and support the Recovery Manager in achieving the tasks outlined in this job description.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure the successful execution of all responsibilities and deliverables.

 
Reporting and Documentation:

  • Ensure the delivery of key project milestones and deliverables, including:
    • A one-page description of the OKIB Recovery Manager role.
    • Verification of the successful hiring or dedication of a project manager (offer letter, email).
    • Development of a multi-year work progress plan by the Recovery Manager.
    • Documentation of engagement activities and completion.
    • A prioritized list of projects with proposed timelines, estimated budgets, and funding plans.


Other Duties:

  • Perform any other responsibilities identified through the development of a contract or as required to support the success of the Watershed Recovery Plan.


WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.
 
Education

  • Environmental Professional Status: Must hold Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) designation or equivalent environmental professional status.
  • Post secondary degree in a business, science or a related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Valid BC driver’s license, class 5 and reliable vehicle
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain


 Experience

  • Familiarity with community research-based principles.
  • Minimum two-four years experience in program coordination, volunteer management
  • Extensive knowledge of issues relating to indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of issues relating to Indigenous Populations

  • An understanding of Sylix / sqilxw cultural practices and knowledge
  • Experience working with First Nations groups or organizations
  • Excellent meeting and facilitation skills, chairing, planning, and organizing

  • Written communication skills to prepare and review briefing notes, discussion papers, and other pertinent materials as necessary.

  • Proven experience in project management, particularly in environmental or watershed recovery.Strong background in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on achieving deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

$36.00 – $42.00 per/hour dependant on education and experience
