Role Overview
Sanitation First is seeking a highly motivated full time Consultant to oversee and guide the implementation of our waterbody restoration projects in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. The consultant will play a key role in rejuvenating village ponds, ensuring technical accuracy, community participation, and sustainability in alignment with our broader water conservation goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and execution of waterbody rejuvenation projects, ensuring technical feasibility and sustainability.
- Conduct site assessments, prepare restoration plans, and provide technical guidance on pond desilting, embankment strengthening, and water quality improvement.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, Gram Panchayats, and grassroots institutions to ensure community ownership and participation.
- Provide capacity-building support to project teams, VWSC members, and local communities.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and government regulations related to water conservation.
- Document project progress, case studies, best practices and lessons learned for reporting and knowledge sharing.
- Prepare timely reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Travel frequently to project locations for monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and field assessments.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in rejuvenating village ponds and wells with an NGO, including technical expertise in ecological restoration, groundwater recharge, and sustainable water management.
- Proficiency in English, Tamil, and Hindi (both written and oral).
- Strong reporting, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and in coordination with multi-stakeholder teams.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
