National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research, INIAV, IP.

The National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research opens a position for one Research Grant for a Graduate (BI) under the PROJECT I-ReWater – Gestión sostenible de los recursos hídricos en la agricultura de regadío en el espacio SUDOE, funded by the Interreg Sudoe Program, co-financed by the European Union,under the following conditions:

1. Type and number of positions: 1 research grant for graduate with a graduate degree.

2. Requirements:

  1. Academic degree in Agronomy, Biology, Data Science or related areas; 
  2.  Proof of entry in the 2nd cycle of studies conferring academic degree (Master) or diploma of approval of the curricular component. The need to present proof of registration is made at the time of contracting the Grant.

3. Preferencial factors:

  1. Preference is given to those who are in the 2nd year of master’s degree; 
  2. knowledge of agricultural practices, digital techniques, data analysis;
  3. Curricular experience in vineyards and/or evidence of professional experience in the area;
  4. Basic computer knowledge from a user perspective;
  5. Professional rigor and good teamwork ability;
  6. Driving licence;
  7. Immediate availability.

4. Work plan: 

j) Implementation of Pilot actions Herdade do Esporão (Reguengos de Monsaraz) and Monte da Ravasqueira (Arraiolos);

k) field measurements of ecophysiology, production and quality;

l) digitalization of fertirrigation with regenerated water;

m) collection of samples for soil, water and leaf analysis;

n) participation in the dissemination of pilot activities for the use of regenerated water and development of the HUB for the use of regenerated water for irrigation;

o) field trials to collect data to validate remote sensing data to estimate water status, nutritional status, production monitoring, among others;

n) Contributions to training activities within the scope of the project;

p) collaboration in the preparation of technical reports.

5. Legislation and Regulations: 

Statute of Scientific Research Fellow approved by Law nr. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, Law No. 12/2013 of January 29 and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019. Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, which approves the FCT Research Scholarship Regulation, I.P. available on  (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento) pursuant to Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28, which updated several provisions of the EBI.

6. Duration of the Grant:

The grant will last for 18 months, starting in 01/04/2025.

7. Monthly maintenance allowance:

 According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), the value of the monthly maintenance allowance is €1040.98/month, with payment to the scholarship holder being via bank transfer.

The monthly value of the scholarship is, according to the scholarship chart of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, IP, in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) Regulation No 950/2019 of 16 December. The periodicity of payment of the scholarship is monthly and by bank transfer. 

The research fellowship will receive personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by adhering to the voluntary social insurance scheme in accordance with the Code of Contributory Schemes of the Social Security System.

8. Workplace:

INIAV, I.P. in Pole of Dois Portos – Estação Vitivinícola Nacional.

9. Technical guidance: 

The scholarship holder will be guided by Senior Researcher José Silvestre.

10. Additional Documents:

The application must contain the following documents: 

  1. Detailed curriculum vitae (dated and signed) – mandatory;
  2. Letter of motivation (dated and signed) addressed to the Project Manager, Dr José Silvestre, which must include the full identification of the candidate and the reference to this announcement No. 02/2025/BI;
  3. Documents (digital copies) proving the elements considered most relevant and certificates of academic qualifications – mandatory;
  4. Declaration of honour regarding conditions not met in official documents, namely the availability for the development of field work, in compliance with the opening hours of this INIAV Pole, I.P.
  5. Other documents which the applicant considers relevant to the assessment of its technical and scientific merit.

11. Selection method and its value: Selection Criteria:

The selection method, with an eliminatory character, will consist of a curricular evaluation and interview, if the jury deems it necessary. 

The criteria for evaluating applications shall be based on the combined assessment of the following criteria:

AQ – Academic qualifications;

PT/PE/PA – Professional training, professional experience and profile adequacy;

E – If the jury deems it necessary, an individual interview will be conducted with the candidates to assess the adequacy of the profile.

Formula for serialization: CF = 0.6AQ + 0,15PT + 0,15PE + 0,10PA or CF = 0.5AQ + 0.15PT + 0,15PE + 0,10PA + 0,10E

12. Composition of the Selection Jury:

The jury of the contest has the following composition:

President – José Silvestre 

1st and 2nd effective members – Sara Canas and Miguel Leão 

Substitute member – Miguel Damásio

13. Announcement/ notification of the results:

Based on the classification obtained by the candidates, the Jury will proceed to their ordination. The lists of candidates admitted and excluded and the final classification of the competition will be sent to the respective e-mails and posted on the premises of the services of INIAV, I.P. in Pole of Dois Portos.

After the results have been published, applicants must be considered automatically notified so that, if they wish to comment on the hearing of interested parties, they can do so within 10 working days of the date of publication. At the end of this period, the selected candidate will be notified in writing of the grant assignment and communication of the effective start date. 

In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the candidate immediately best ranked will be notified and thus successively.
