How This Position Contributes to the Team

The Manager, Educational Programming plays a pivotal role in delivering diverse educational programs—ranging from online courses to in-person events—tailored for the water quality community. This position is responsible for full-cycle project management, including budgeting, quality assurance, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement to ensure program success. The Manager collaborates with staff, volunteers, and key stakeholders to facilitate program development, drive continuous improvement, and implement innovative solutions. Additionally, this role fosters effective communication and engagement to enhance learning experiences and maximize program impact.

NOTE: This role is hybrid and requires working in the office (Alexandria, VA) 2 days every other week. Travel is required (up to 20% of the year) for meetings and events.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages assigned educational events.
    • Works with department coordinator to ensure day-to-day workflow for assigned program deadlines are met.
    • Supports a variety of volunteers in developing their educational content.
    • Collaborates with the Director, Educational Programming to enhance technology, streamline the Call for Papers, and implement process improvements.
    • Coordinates with key WEF volunteers and committees, collaborating organizations, member associations, presenters, vendors, and other WEF departments.
  • Manages program resource updates, ensuring proofreading of materials, timely website and community site updates, smooth app integrations, and data management.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and sensitivity as key skills to empathetically manage stakeholders experiencing difficulties/concerns.
  • Serves as primary project-related contact to strategic partners, sponsors, and volunteers, addressing and resolving concerns based on project urgency.
  • Develops budgets and manages fiscal tracking of projects.
  • Analyzes program trends and event results, identifying issues and developing and recommending solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in association/nonprofit management and program development.
  • Experience in education programming, communications, and/or event management, and a solid grasp of project management principles.
  • Knowledge of the water sector (preferred) or previous experience working with a scientific organization.
  • Ability to travel (up to 20% of the year) for meetings and events.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in abstract management systems, association management software, mobile apps, Microsoft office, and other related industry software.
  • Demonstrated project and process management abilities, including setting and meeting deadlines and effectively multitasking to prioritize and oversee multiple actions or events simultaneously.
  • Proven experience working and managing volunteers at all levels of the organization.
  • Clear and persuasive communicator, capable of crafting messages for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated dedication to detail and ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
  • Positive work ethic and excellent customer services skills; demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with colleagues, members, and the public.
  • Demonstrates a proactive, self-starter attitude, thriving in fast-paced environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to problem-solve independently and proactively, and to lead collaborative efforts to define solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with finding creative and innovative solutions.

This person will work primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment. Onsite duties may require prolonged periods of standing and walking.
