This position is located in the Water Resources Allocation Program (WRAP), Water Rights District I Office in Albuquerque, NM.

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the internship positions is to support designated Water Resource staff within the District I office with various program duties within the Water Resources Allocation Program. The additional support will help the agency complete critical water rights projects and deal with an increase in workload due to an ongoing drought in New Mexico.

How does it get done?

Assist the Albuquerque District I Water Rights Division with mission-critical tasks associated with water rights and water resource administration including the following:

1.  GIS projects
2.  Field work
3.  Entering meter readings in the OSE WATERS Database
4.  Filing meter readings
5.  Organizing library resources
6.  File room organization including moving files
7.  Compilation of technical data/ Data Analysis
8.  Report writing under the supervision of a manager
9.  Miscellaneous duties

Who are the customers?

The general public, water right owners, realtors, brokers, consultants and agency staff members.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following:

1.   Ability to read warranty deeps, maps, plats, surveys and property records using technical mapping data by
     legal descriptions and Global Positioning System (GPS) by utilizing internal USGS Map Locator Tool and
     Graphic Information System (GIS) using ArcMap and/or ArcPro and assist with digitalizing maps.
2.  Enter data and maintain database integrity.
3.  Conduct fieldwork to assist in administering both surface water and groundwater rights by analyzing data,
     creating and updating spreadsheets.

Minimum Qualification

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.  Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.  Use of Xerox machine, scanners, printers and telephone.  Occasional field work requires use of digital cameras and a global positioning system.
