Why does the job exist?
The incumbent will assist with running the breach analysis simulation tool called DSS-WISE Lite, develop inundation maps, and perform consequence analysis for jurisdictional dams. The incumbent may also be tasked with running the Dam Screening Tool (DST) where needed. The incumbent will develop knowledge, skill, and experience with these analyses on actual dams regulated by the OSE. In return, the OSE will have the results that can assist with understanding of consequences and risks posed by dams.
How does it get done?
The intern will perform the following job duties under the guidance of the mentor and the Dam Safety Bureau Chief.
1. Assist the bureau with simulating dam breach analyses and developing inundation maps using DSS-WISE Lite and Dam Screening Tool (DST) programs.
2. Assist the bureau with estimating population at risk (PAR) from the DSS-WISE Lite runs and Loss of Life (LOL) from DST runs.
3. Assist the bureau with formatting inundation maps for emergency action plans and organization of data and electronic files.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
1. Civil engineering background.
2. Familiar with technical data compilation and analysis.
3. Knowledge of GIS using ArcMap and ArcPro, and MS Office Suite.
4. Technical report writing, and office skills such as filing and resource organization.
Minimum Qualification
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
Employment Requirements
This position will not drive a state vehicle.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Handling of large reports, binders, boxes filled with documents, and office furniture may be required. Use of copy machine, scanners, printers and telephone will be required. Occasional field work may require use of digital cameras, global positioning system, and other heavier field equipment and dealing with adverse weather, climbing of slopes and walls, walking on rock, boulder and concrete surfaces, and risk of slips and falls.
