The department Catchment and Urban Hydrology (HYD)

Your department deals with the creation and application of methods and tools to determine effects in hydrology. The department therefore has an important task in maintaining and developing hydrological software important to Deltares such as wflow, hydro-MT and D-HYDRO.

One example is the quantification of the effectiveness of measures (e.g. nature-based solutions) in river basins and cities.  Hydrology is one of the most important components in Water Resources management, determining flood risks as well as the effects of climate change on our water systems. We also contributed to climate scenarios through the GRADE project (Generation of Rainfall and Discharge Extremes) with Rijkswaterstaat (Sito-PS).

The main customers are Rijkswaterstaat and the water boards in the Netherlands, the international market, the EU, international financiers, engineering firms and governments. In addition, the department collaborates on many projects of other departments within Deltares where the hydrological basis is provided.

Laurène Bouaziz (Hydrologist department HYD):”HYD team consists of a dynamic group of motivated colleagues with strong technical expertise. We develop innovative tools for hydrological modeling at catchment scale and in urban areas to make an impact in water management and sustainability. This makes HYD a challenging environment where it is fun to work on innovative solutions.”
