Objective and Purpose of the Assignment
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is committed to promoting meaningful youth engagement (MYE) in water-
related projects in urban and rural areas. Therefore, we are seeking a young professional to support
with communicating the relevance and value of this engagement. ADB plans to publish four factsheets, an
attractive 2 or 4-pager to inform and convince target groups on the relevance and options for MYE by ADB
with and in DMCs. Each factsheet targets a different group: internal ADB project team leaders and
project officers, governments of developing member countries, financing partners of ADB, and internal
ADB-wide audience (higher management and other sectors than water).
ADB’s Draft Water and Youth Strategy for Urban and Rural areas (WYSUR) focuses on three strategic
directions:
Capacity Building of Young Water Professionals in Developing Member Countries (DMCs): Through programs
like the Young Experts Program (YEP), ADB aims to build the capacity of young professionals in DMCs.
This includes structured training, mentorship, and long-term placements in water-related projects within
DMCs and ADB operations.
Fostering an Innovative Environment: ADB aims to foster intergenerational dialogues and integrates youth
perspectives into water security strategies. This includes ideathons, workshops, mentorship programs,
and platforms like the Asia Pacific Youth Symposium (APYS). ADB supports innovative projects, provides
networking opportunities, and recognizes young professionals’ contributions, aiming to build a resilient
and innovative water sector.
Meaningful Youth Engagement (MYE) in Projects: ADB emphasizes the role of youth as co-creators and
drivers of change in water-related projects. By involving young professionals in-country programming,
policy dialogues, design, implementation, and evaluation of projects, ADB can ensure that youth
perspectives are incorporated, and their contributions are recognized. This approach not only empowers
young professionals but also enhances the effectiveness and sustainability of water projects.
Scope of Work
The objective of the factsheets is to effectively communicate the relevance and value of meaningful
youth engagement in water-related projects within urban and rural/agricultural areas. The purpose is to
inform and persuade different target groups, including internal ADB project team leaders and project
officers, governments of developing member countries, financing partners of ADB, and an internal ADB-
wide audience (higher management and other sectors than water). The factsheets aim to highlight the
value and impact of youth involvement, showcase successful examples, and provide actionable insights to
encourage further investment and support for youth engagement in the water sector.
