Job description

You’ll join a team of 17, consisting of a mix of grades, working on a number of different projects. Our workplan is agreed quarterly, which ensures that work is varied and opportunities to learn are numerous.
You’ll support and learn from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins all kinds of activities, from flood warnings and the effort to combat climate change, to securing national funding and promoting the public’s understanding of flood risk.
Reporting to the FCRM Data Improvements Team Leader, you will fulfil a multi-purpose role, working on a variety of projects and datasets that require elements of data improvements. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in any of the following:
- updating and maintaining datasets
- solving technical data issues
- improving the way our data is stored
- supporting our project delivery leads who manage our workplan
- supporting engagement activities and
- maintaining relationships and communications with Area stakeholders

The team
The Data Improvements team sit within the Innovation, Systems and Services Department in National FCRM. We are a friendly, enthusiastic, inclusive and supportive team dedicated to improving datasets. We do this by supporting others to provide clear, useable and reliable data that ensures customers can have an accurate picture of flood risk.
As a team we like to challenge the status quo, innovate at every turn, build strong relationships and improve ways of working.
Experience/skills required
This challenge requires real confidence when solving problems and delivering effective solutions. In particular, we’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in data management and analysis
- Knows how to use standard IT packages, such as Excel, Word & PowerPoint
- Is a comfortable communicator with the confidence to explain technical information to non-technical people
- Has experience in managing customer relationships
- Works effectively as part of a team and can forge strong relationships
Desirable experience:
- You will likely have a bachelor’s degree in data science, geography, engineering or other related subject
- Has some experience of using software and tools such as GIS, databases , PowerBi, Python, SQL

Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England. We offer hybrid home/office working but some travel is expected for team meetings.
