This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. What Will You Do

  • Gain working knowledge of the Hydraulics Unit, which provides water management services for the Department of Transportation to meet State and Federal Standards and Regulations 
  • Support functions of hydraulics unit including design, operations, stormwater management, floodplain management, and flood event response and recovery 
  • Gain skills in: CADD (ORD), Hydrologic and Hydraulic software, Drainage studies, Watershed delineation, Pipe and culvert sizing, Flood Warning Tools Use and support, Stormwater BMP design, Water Quality assessments, Stream gauge support

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Engineering major preferred
  • Interest in transportation 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, GIS experience is helpful
  • Interest in gaining project management skills and learning to apply engineering concepts to solve complex problems
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must possess bachelor’s degree from, or be currently enrolled in masters, or professional level program (e.g., Law School) at an accredited North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) earned between 2022 – 2025 Or be a current graduate or law school student.
  • Must provide proof of College or University attendance/graduation by attaching a transcript (official or unofficial)
