Mō te tūranga | About the role

  • Support the team on significant policy challenges such as the Freshwater Policy Review that make a difference across the region, and to New Zealand.
  • Lead and support Resource management policy programmes including contract management.
  • Liaise with Iwi partners and key stakeholders.  
  • Provide plan drafting, policy analysis, policy development and policy advice.
  • Coach and mentor team members on policy expertise and share knowledge on policy matters.
  • Opportunities to work with industry-leading experts in their fields.

  • Enjoy a varied role with responsibilities for policy writing, advocacy, facilitating, and mentoring.
  • Have an interest in RMA planning (including plan drafting and Schedule 1 processes) and an understanding of Resource Management Issues.
  • Enjoy creating & writing policies and communicating their importance & meaning to stakeholders.
  • Can fit into a small team working in a project environment

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in policy, planning, law, resource management, or similar.
  • Minimum 5-6 years relevant experience.
  • Excellent policy development, policy process, and policy analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of regional government and the relevant legislative environment.
  • Working knowledge of Resource Management Act and Schedule 1 processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, and able to facilitate and present to a variety of audiences.
  • Political and tactical thinking skills.
  • Ability to deliver in a political & rapidly changing environment.
